Antoine Leclaire was baptised on March 23, 1834 in the Basilica of Notre Dame at Bytown
At sometime around 1847 Antoine, his parents, and his younger brother Damas migrated from Ottawa to the Matachewan River area in search of cedar to cut down and sell -- Antoine was 13. Back then, the Upper Ottawa Valley region was raw wilderness, and largely roadless. Rivers, lakes and portages were the only pathways through cedar swamps, great pine forests, vast stands of hemlock, and sweeping uplands of sugar maple and oak. Despite a century and a half of settlement, timber cutting, mining and farming, much of that area of eastern Ontario is still wilderness today
On July 15, 1860, Antoine married Marie-Émilie 'Mary' Gervais in the Roman Catholic church at the village of Mount Saint Patrick, Brougham Township, Renfrew County
He died December 1st, 1902 in his 69th year, and was interred in the cemetery of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church at Griffith Village on December 3rd
Antoine and Marie brought eight known children into the world:
* Félicité Leclaire {McLennan / Clément / Aubrey / Lemarche}, 1862 - aft 1916
* Damas 'Thomas' Leclaire, 1865 - 1943
* Marie-Olive Vitaline Leclaire {Belisle}, 1868 - aft 1887
* Antoine Leclaire, 1870 - aft 1909
* François 'Francis' 'Frank' Leclaire, 1872 - 1938
* Victore 'Victor' 'Vic' Leclaire, 1876 - 1965
* Julien Charles 'Jules' 'Jaby' Leclaire, 1878 - aft 1901
* Napoléon 'Paul' 'Polée' Leclaire, 1880 - aft 1930
