Stephanie Mouton Reed, MD peacefully departed this world on Tuesday October 30 at the age of 63, surrounded by her friends and family at University Medical Center in New Orleans. She was born in Lafayette, LA, grew up in New Orleans and lived for over 30 years in Nashville TN. Dr. Reed is a graduate of Tulane School of Medicine, Newcomb College of Tulane University and St. Mary’s Dominican High School. After practicing for more than 20 years as a board- certified anesthesiologist and faculty member at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Dr. Reed opened her own medicine practice, Centre Energique, in Nashville and was a founding member of the American Board of Holistic Medicine. At Centre Energique, her patients benefited from her extensive experience in traditional western medicine and integrative holistic therapies. She became interested in this approach after treating herself in the years following her recovery from Hodgkin's Disease, which was diagnosed while she was in medical school. In the past two years, she became her most important patient as she courageously battled breast cancer. She was a genuinely caring and progressive thinking physician who created a path of hope and well-being for all under her care. Stephanie lived life in a big way, embracing life with a generous heart and love for all. Her family and friends meant the world to her and we are all lucky to have shared the excitement of Stephanie’s life whether it was stories of her travels all over the world, her love of languages, her near genius ability to answer Jeopardy questions, bridge clubs, constant helpful hints on nutrition, food as medicine, healthy living and near daily shopping excursions to Whole Foods. Stephanie charged through life with a vitality that knew no bounds. For the many people who have been fortunate enough to call her friend, been showered by her positivity and cheer, her graciousness and candor, there is comfort in knowing that a benevolent spirit continues to watch over them and love them from afar. She was the daughter if Elizabeth Martin Mouton and the late William Joseph Mouton, Jr. She is survived by her son William Jackson Reed, her former husband and friend Walker Casey Reed, her brothers David Edward Mouton, Robert William Mouton and Martin Joseph Mouton, her sister Mary Elizabeth Mouton and loving nieces and nephews, Christopher Robert Mouton, Ryan David Mouton, Jacqueline Mouton Kepper and Michelle Mouton Cronvich. Friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass on November 24, at 11 am at St Rita of Cascia Church in Harahan, LA. Visitation begins at 9 am. A separate service in Nashville will follow at a later date. The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to St Mary’s Dominican High School, Tulane School of Medicine or the University School of Nashville.
