Phillip Lee McDaniel, 66, passed away, Monday, Oct. 29, 2018, at his home in Salkum, Wash. He was born in Chehalis, May 25, 1952, to Van and Donna Jean (Jenks) McDaniel.

Phillip graduated from Mossyrock High School in 1970. He worked as hard as he played. Phillip had a passion for life… from dancing to four wheeling in the Oregon dunes. He belonged to the Alder Benders Jeep Club and to the Mount St. Helens Search and Rescue Team. He was always on the go, but above all else, believed that family was the most important thing in life. Phillip especially loved spending quality time with his grandchildren.

After graduation from high school, Phillip completed basic training with the United States Army, then transferred to the United States Air Force Reserves where he served until retirement. He worked for the McDaniel and TDS Telephone Companies. He was a firefighter with the Salkum Fire Department for 42 years, serving as chief for 20 of those years. He started Mill Creek Trees, supplying Christmas trees to families for several years.

Phillip is survived by his loving wife, Cathy McDaniel; children, Traci (McDaniel) Hiebert, Lee McDaniel, Kirsten Yager, Kristofor Yager and Erik Yager; grandchildren, Gavin and Bailey Hiebert, Serenity and Killian McDaniel; parents, Van and Janet McDaniel; sisters, Dorann Eckhoff, Wanda Miller Mills, Vanda Chess and Vicki Friedrich.

He is preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Donna and Gib Miller.
A funeral service with military honors, will take place at 1 p.m., Friday, Nov. 9, 2018, at Salkum Community Church, with a graveside to follow at Salkum Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, Phillip’s family requests donations be made to Providence Hospice, Lymphoma Research or to a charitable group of your choice. Please consider organ donation to save a life.
