William Donald Charles, age 61, died Thursday, June 7, 1973, in Morris Cafritz Hospital in Washington, DC, after a long illness.

A native of Union County, SC; son of the late John David Charles (1868–1944) and Elva Gault Charles (1871–1951); husband of Ruth Virginia Johnson Charles (1916–1984).

Retired from Pickley House Hotel; a Baptist.

Survivors include his son, Major Cecil M. Charles (1934-2022); brothers, Joseph Stewart "Joe" Charles (1895-1982) and John David Charles (1909–1983); sisters, Mae Charles Wood (1891-1979), Ruby Charles Tennille (1904-1993), and Minnie Lee Charles Calvert (1907-1986); and two grandchildren.

Also predeceased by his siblings, L. Marvin Charles (1890–1923), Vera Charles Golson (1893–1966), Wallace Little Charles (1897–1950), Guy Heiness Charles (1898–1970), Ernest Earl Charles (1902–1961), and Pearl Charles Anderson (1902-1971).

The family received friends from 11:00 am - 2:00 pm, Sunday, June 10, 1973, at Greenlawn Chapel, Spartanburg, SC.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 pm, Monday, June 11, 1973, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel by Rev. Joseph Crook; burial in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
