Son of Robert Davis Alexander (1800-1879) and Jane Hamilton Dunn (1803-1873). Born in Monroe Co., IN about 1832 (according to each census 1850, 1860, and 1870). He died 1877-1800 (after the conception of his youngest child, Josephus, and prior to the 1880 census, when Martha declares herself a widow). He married Martha Elinor Alexander 12 Dec 1864 in Green County, Indiana. Martha's obituary says that he was a Civil War veteran, but I couldn't find records.

He should not be confused with FAG #52955787. Robert W. Alexander, age 68 [1830], d. 1 Apr 1898, W. Seventh St., Bloomington, buried in Rose Hill Cemetery (Old Spenser Addition), Bloomington, IN, next to a wife who also died that year. There was a request for an invalid pension in Jun 1882. He seems to be a Private in Co. A, 54th Indiana Infantry. Headstone for Union soldier of that company who died 1 Apr 1898. He is probably the husband of: Mrs. Robert Alexander, #52955731, d. 1 Feb 1898 (Old Spencer Addition), Rose Hill Cemetery, Bloomington, IN.
