John William McAllister, 87, of Waverly, Ohio passed away on Friday, November 2, 2018 at Adena Regional Medical Center surrounded by family. He was born January 10, 1931 in Detroit, Michigan son of the late Christopher Everett McAllister and Annabelle Peters McAllister. On December 3, 1955 he was united in marriage to Mary Susan “Sue” Heater McAllister who preceded him in death on November 6, 2016. He is survived by his daughter of Waverly; two sons; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren and two brothers. In addition to his parents and wife John was preceded in death by his sisters in law, Joan McAllister and Dorothy “Dodo” Johnson, and a special aunt Monica Gavrill.

John was the former owner and operator of Pike Chevrolet for over 40 years. He proudly served his country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Waverly Service Club, the Waverly Jaycees, and a 51 year member of American Legion Merit Post 142. John was a member of Saint Paul Lutheran Church and Holy Trinity Church. He was a graduate of Miami University and a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. John was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at the Botkin Hornback Funeral Home with Rev. Danny Eitel officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Union Cemetery on Bridge Street in Waverly with military honors conducted by American Legion Merit Post 142. Family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 6th from 5-7 PM and for one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
