Mr. Schmidt was a lifelong resident of Lafayette before moving to Michigan nine years ago to be closer to family. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed spending time with his family.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Barbara; and his 2 children.
Memorial service in Michigan in March.
