Donald Maxwell (Don) Mowbray Sr. October 27, 2018

Donald Maxwell Mowbray Sr. (Don), 80 years old of Roanoke, passed away Saturday morning, October 27, 2018 in his home, with his family by his side.

Don retired from Dodson Pest Control with 20 plus years of service.

Don was a devoted husband, father, granddaddy, great granddaddy, uncle, brother, brother-in-law, and friend.

He was preceded in death by his wife, the love of his life, of 56 years, Patricia Mowbray (Pat); parents, Andrew and Virginia Mowbray; his sisters Gloria and Norma Mowbray, and Lucille Smith; his brothers Rodney and Eugene Mowbray.

Surviving are his sons, Donnie and Mike (Lora) Mowbray, daughter, Tammy Hughes, Grandchildren, Holleigh Lewis, Danielle and Michael Mowbray; great grandchildren, Ariana Mowbray, Landen and Sydney Lewis; sister, June Thomas; Nephews, Robert Smith, Steve Smith, Eugene Mowbray JR and Kenny Mowbray; niece, Linda Hudson.

Don was a devoted husband to Pat. Through 56 years of marriage, they raised 3 wonderful children and his love for them was unconditional. Lora was like a second daughter to him. Don’s favorite title was ‘Granddaddy’. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He loved his large family and nothing pleased him more than big cookouts, family beach trips, and holidays with the family. He especially loved being with the family for Thursday night dinners and Saturday morning breakfast.

Don loved being on the softball field, playing up until the age of 65. He also spent many years coaching and was the #1 fan at his kids and grandchildren’s sporting events.

Over the past 16 years, Don enjoyed being in a bowling league and having weekly breakfast with some of his closest friends.

He had a big heart and loved deeply. He will be sadly missed by many. May he rest in peace in the arms of the Lord.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2pm, Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at Oakey’s Vinton Chapel. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-8pm on Tuesday, October 30, 2018.
