John Ross was born on 16 May 1775 in the Borley neightbood of Durness parish, Sutherland, Scotland. John Ross and Robina Mackenzie were married on 23 March 1811 in Kinlochbervie, Eddrachillis parish, Sutherland, Scotland. John and Robina emigrated from Scotland with two children to Pictou, Nova Scotia in 1815 or 1816 and settled first at Churchville, where two more children were born. In 1821 John and Robina and their four children moved to Boularderie, where six more children were born. John and Robina are buried in Man O War Point Cemetery.
