Susie Holmes passed away peacefully at Samaritan Hospital. She was born to mother Julia Alston Chancey. She was raised and educated in Horry County Public Schools. Susie relocated to Troy, New York in 1957, as much of her family did the same. She then married her husband Ernest Holmes and raised five children together. Susie enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and was a caregiver to many children throughout the years. Susie was predeceased by her husband Ernest Holmes, two sisters (Jessie Moody and Julia Belle Johnson), and one brother (Harry Chancy). Susie is survived by her children Sara Pompey (Plainfield, NJ), David Beaty, Doris (Eddie) Jackson, Michael Holmes, and Abbie Holmes (all of Troy, NY). She is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. She leaves behind two brothers, Leroy Alston (Myrtle Beach, SC) and Thomas (Ethel Mae) Chancey (Shallotte, NC). Susie also leaves behind one brother-in-law Theodore Holmes and several nieces, nephews, and a host of family and friends.
