JOE GUERNSEY TAKEN BY DEATH
Joe B. Guernsey, 88, life time resident of this county, died at his home at 1024 West Washington St. at 7 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16. Mr. Guernsey had been ill for quite some time, and had been seriously ill since May, 1953.
Mr. Guernsey was born June 29, 1865, on a farm near Plano. He was a farmer for many years, moving to Centerville in 1908 at the age of 45. He then opened a real estate agency, and had been active in that capacity since.
Mr. Guernsey was one of Appanoose county's well known residents. Possessed of a fine character, friendly and kind he made a host of friends during his life here all of whom mourn his passing.
He was married to Elizabeth Showalter, who survives, together with a daughter, Mrs. Glen Wilson of Unionville, Ia., and a son, Atty. Hugh B. Guernsey of this city. Seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one brother, C. Guernsey of Seymour also survive.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 18, at 11 a.m. at the Miller - Wehrle Funeral Home here. The Rev. Addison Lawton will officiate, and burial will be at Oakland. The family has requested that no flowers be sent.
