Mr. Colan Charles Taylor, 78, of Metter died Sunday morning after a long illness. The Ware Co. native lived most of his life in Candler Co. He graduated from Worsham College of Mortuary Science and operated Taylor Funeral Home in Metter from 1951 to 1971. He began a nursing home business in 1960 in Pulaski and later opened homes in Metter, Scott, Statesboro and Claxton. He served as President of Ga. Nursing Home Association in 1969. He was a director of Metter Banking Co. and First Banking of Southeast Georgia and Candler Co. Club, Solomon Masonic Lodge #1 and the Alee Shriners Temple in Savannah. He was a Deacon and member of the Metter First Baptist Church.
He is survived by one son, Steve C. Taylor of Metter; one daughter, Vicki T. Bird of Metter; Two brothers, Jack Taylor and James Taylor both of Metter; two sisters, Marjorie T. Sutton and Eloise T. Cowart both of Metter; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. at the Metter First Baptist Church with Rev. Danny Beam and Rev. Michael Guido officiating. Burial will be in the Lake Cemetery.
