Clayton Alan Smith passed October 24, 2018 in El Campo Texas. He was born October 13, 1959 to Cecil Alton Smith and Shirley Elizabeth Hunt.

He grew up in Garwood helping his parents rice farm and was an athlete who played football, basketball and track for Rice Consolidated High. He continued his track career at Abilene Christian University where he graduated with a degree in Business. He met and married his college sweetheart, Diane McLean Smith on June 12, 1982.

Together they weathered several moves around Texas, California and back, career-changes and finally came back to Garwood to work for 52 Farms with his brother, Madison Smith.

His family always knew they could count on him for anything. Whether it was a fix-it issue or to help them pack and move, which he was the unparalleled expert. He was first to work, last to leave and easy to laugh.

Everyone who knew Clayton was aware of his second love: deer hunting. He claimed his adept skill came from his color blindness, but whatever his secret, Diane compromised and embraced his second love by decorating their home with his mounts and antler sheds.

Visitation will begin on Friday, October 26, 2018, 3:00PM, with the family receiving friends from 5:00 to 7:00PM at Triska Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at 10:00AM at El Campo Church of Christ with John McCord officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park.
