LEBANON (Special) – Funeral services are pending today for a 64 – year – old Lebanon woman killed when she was struck by a train here yesterday.
Lebanon Police Chief Don Allen and state troopers said Mrs. Esther L. Atkinson was walking west, close to one of the rails, when she apparently failed to see or hear an oncoming freight train at 11:15 a.m.
Emergency brakes were applied, engineer I. E. Napier, 51, Springfield, reported but the train was unable to stop before striking the woman.
The tragedy occurred at the Mill Creek Road crossing in Lebanon.
The Body of Mrs. Atkinson was taken to Colonial Funeral Home.

LEBANON – Funeral services for Mrs. Esther L. Atkinson, 64, of Lebanon, will be at 2 p.m. today in Holman Funeral Home here with Roger Tribble officiating. Burial will be in Lebanon City Cemetery.
Mrs. Atkinson was struck by a Frisco train as she walked along a railroad right-of-way at 11:15 a.m. Monday, and was dead on arrival at Wallace Hospital here. The tragedy occurred at the Mill Creek Road crossing in Lebanon.
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Lois Barnett, of Route 4, Lebanon; one son, Freeman, of Independence; two sisters, Mrs. Opal Jones and Mrs. Grace Pearcy, both of Falcon, Mo.; one brother, Richard Crisp, of Competition; and six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
