William was a PATRIOT OF THE REVOLUTION serving in the 30 days under Capt. John Cook, 183 days under Capt. John McCord, and 33 days under Capt. Willis Whitaker. Family tradition says that he fought at King's Mountain and Cowpens.
William Fox was the son of Col. Henry Fox III and his 2nd. wife the widow Martha Keene (maiden name unknown), and was born about 1743 at his father's plantation on or near the Black River in the present Clarendon or Williamburg County, moving about 1746 with his father to or near Charleston, South Carolina. He was one of three children born to this union the others being Joseph Fox, born 1745 and Temperance Fox, 1741-?( It is not known if she married.)
