★ Jun 1744: Anthony of King William [St. John's Parish] bought 200 acres from THOMAS STONE on Great Byrd Creek, was likely his father's home plantation.
★ Apr 1749: Anthony adds to 19 Nov 1745 purchase, buying 50 more acres from EDWARD RICE. These two properties were eventually inherited by Zachariah.

★ 24 May 1759: WILLIAM GILES sold to ZACHARIAH HADEN → 1/2 tract granted by LORD GRANVILLE to WILLIAM GILES containing 529 acres dated 8 Nov 1757. This tract seems to be very close to William's & Joseph's original acreage that was also located in the "Fork of the Yadkins" and may have been worked by them as well as their own properties, since there's no evidence Zachariah ever lived there for an extended period of time.

★ May 1769: Edward Rice's will shows that Zachariah is living on his father's home plantation on Byrd Creek which was purchased by Anthony, in Nov 1745 and April 1749.

★ 17 Oct 1774: Zachariah sold Byrd Crk homestead [inherited from father Anthony] to [COL.] JOHN HOPKINS (1726-1807) [brother of WILLIAM HOPKINS who married Zachariah's niece - Mary - dau of John Haden] . . . Even though Zachariah likely never lived in North Carolina for any meaningful period of time, this record likely explains at least a part of the incentive or motive for his brothers - William's & Joseph's removals to the Yadkin River area in North Carolina, at approximately the same time.

Gratitude and credit to Kay Haden for her insightful compilation, Leaves of the Tree where she has documented in expanded detail upon Dorothy Kabler Haden's work, John Haden of Virginia (1968). Much of this biography incorporates Kay's thorough analysis of facts and tradition, which has been instrumental in narrowing down the resting place of Zachariah Haden and his kin.

Biography compilation by 5X great grandnephew, Mark Hayden.
