Dad was the youngest of 6 boys born to William and Rose Liebert of Louisville, Kentucky. As a young man, Dad worked on his family's dairy farm, making deliveries with his family's milk wagon. The business advertised as "Liebert Bros. Grade A, Pasteurized, Dairy Products, 2141 Lexington Road." After graduating from Dupont Manual Training High School, Dad enlisted in the US Navy. He served as an Aviation Structural Mechanic in Patrol Squadron FORTY-FOUR in Norfolk, Virginia. His squadron was the first to receive the Navy's new anti-submarine seaplane, the P5M1-Martin "Marlin". Dad enjoyed aviation, held a pilot's license and earned his Airframe and Powerplant License. He started his lifetime career in aviation working as a mechanic for American Airlines in Tulsa, OK. He joined McDonnell Aircraft Corporation and moved his family to St. Louis in the mid-1960s, settling into the growing community of Florissant. Dad worked for McDonnell Douglas for many years and eventually retired from Boeing.
