James A. McCoy, age 76 of 356 Cedar St. Ishpeming passed away on Thursday Sept. 9, 2010 at Marquette General Hospital.

James was born January 9, 1934 in Ishpeming the son of the late Arthur J. and Sarah (Tapani) McCoy. James was a graduate of the Ishpeming High School, receiving his degree after attending night school. He moved to the Detroit area, living in Sterling Heights and working for the Stroh Brewery for 17 years. James received a certificate in electronics, and was also certified in Electric Motor Rewind. James returned to Ishpeming in 1972, working at a family owned business for several years.

James was an Authorized Inspector (A.I.) for aircraft, and a licensed Airframe and Power Plant inspector and served as the chief Inspector for Simmons Airlines in Marquette. He went on to work for Embraer Aircraft Corp. as a technical representative, overseeing the maintenance and mechanics of the aircraft. Although presently retired, he was attending NMU and was a senior in the Mechanical Engineering program. He was a private pilot and enjoyed time spent at his camp on Lake Arfelin where he was a member of the Lake Arfelin Association.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years Joanne McCoy of Ishpeming, 3 sons – Roger McCoy of Ishpeming, Steven (Julie) McCoy of Ishpeming and Bob McCoy of Seattle, WA, 2 daughters – Vicki (Bill) Bennon of Diorite Loc., and Catherine and fiance' Paul Sirchia of Hermansville, a brother Bill (Kay) McCoy of Imlay City, MI, 9 grandchildren – Steven (Missy) and Lance McCoy, Sean (Trish) Bennon, Jolene (Tim) Beaumont, Charity (Dan) Mason, Michelle (Wayne) Morrow, Kristine Bushong (boyfriend Ryan), Paul (Teal) Oien, Jennifer (Chris) Goodall, along with 9 great grandchildren – Jordan, Madisyn, Tyler, Breanna, Kaleb, Addie, Colin, Ella and Lillia.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 1 – 3 pm on Sunday, Sept. 12, 2010 at the Bjork & Zhulkie Funeral Home where funeral services will be held at 3:00pm with the Rev. J. Robert Nelson to officiate. Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery. A luncheon will follow the services at the Country Grill in Ishpeming.
