Born September 17, 1919, in Spartanburg, SC, she was the daughter of the late John B. Cubitt, Sr. and Annie (Sprouse) Cubitt and the wife of the late Clyde "Steve" Stephens.
A member of Central United Methodist Church, she was active in Masonic orders and served as Royal Matron of the Amaranth of South Carolina, Eastern Star, and other civic organizations.
She was a loving and beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister. She was know for her vivaciousness and her humor, and was always willing to help and to welcome people with open arms.
Survivors include two daughters, Tootie Hocking and her husband Wally of Spartanburg, and Lynn Haddock and her husband Henry of Salters, SC; a brother, William B. Cubitt of Chattanooga, TN; four grandchildren, Kim Richards, Kelly Richards, and Gregg Addington of Spartanburg, and Steve Addington of Huntersville, NC; four great-grandchildren, Cole, Ashlyn, Justin, and Nick Addington; a special cousin, Madoyle Rupert of Jacksonville, FL; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Mary Alice Stephens Lamb; three sisters, Alice Duncan, Dora Cubitt, and Anne Owens; and two brothers, John B. Cubitt, Jr. and Frank Cubitt.
Visitation was 1:30-2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 22, 2007, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Graveside services followed at 3:00 p.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens conducted by the Rev. Dr. Kirk H. Neely.
In lieu of flowers, memorials could be made to Gibbs Cancer Center, SRMC Foundation, 101 East Wood Street, Spartanburg, SC 29303; or to the charity of one's choice.
