Shirley Larson, age 91, of Story City, formerly of Ellsworth, Iowa, died on October 10, 2018, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, Iowa.

Shirley Ann Voga was born on October 4, 1927 on a farm outside of Ellsworth, Iowa. She was youngest of nine children born to Ole and Albie (Tyler) Voga. She was baptized December 4, 1927, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ellsworth and confirmed on May 24, 1942.

Shirley graduated from Ellsworth High School with the Class of 1945. She attended Iowa State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls and received a two-year teaching degree in 1947. She taught second grade for one year at McCallsburg, Iowa, then taught second grade at Ellsworth, Iowa.

On June 4, 1948, she married Clifton Larson at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Ellsworth. She continued as substitute teacher. She loved reading and was an avid card player. She enjoyed golfing and many years wintering in Texas.

She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Ellsworth and involved in many church activities. She was also a member of PEO, Advance Club. and Jewell Golf & Country Club.

Surviving are her children Suzanne (Robert) Barkema of Muscatine, Steven (Pam) Larson of Ellsworth, Cheryl Lenz of Story City, and Julie (Dennis) Reinsch of Ames; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law Arling Isvik; two sisters-in-law Flo Larson and Martha Voga; and many other relatives and friends.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; husband Clifton; son-in-law Blaine Lenz; brothers Don, Russell, Leo, Kermit, and Gene; and sisters Alda McGonigle, Mildred Johnson, and Joyce Clayton.
