Goodman became a fight promoter & restaurant owner after retiring from the ring. He served as a machine gunner in the 131st infantry on the Mexican border in 1915. During World War I, he was the chief boxing instructor at Camp Grant, near Rockford, IL. Goodman was also a member of Chipilly Post No. 310 American Legion.
