OBIT:
Retired USAF Veteran, 95, dies

Retired for 43 years, this 30-year USAF Veteran died Friday at Dogwood Forest Assisted Living Community in Alpharetta. Carl Elvin Disney, Sr was 95 years old.

Born in Coal Creek, Anderson County, Tennessee in 1913, Carl was the oldest of 6 children.

In 1935, at the age of 22 and the same year his mother passed away, Carl left his Tennessee home to see what the world had to offer. He hitch-hiked and caught trains (hobo-style) to Ft. Bliss (El Paso), Texas, where the Army pay was $21 a month! Ft. Bliss was a Calvary Post, and he was assigned to the “Horse Drawn Field Artillery” that maneuvered Howitzer cannons into battle. He briefly returned to civilian life, but with few jobs available, he re-enlisted in the Army, ultimately making the military his career. In 1966, after 30 years of loyal service, Carl retired from the US Air Force, at the NCO rank of Senior Master Sergeant (E8), a personnel specialist.

Carl retired to Southern California and dabbled in several occupations, working for a Defense Contractor in Oceanside Calif, Billeting Affairs at Camp Pendleton, Calif, earned a Real Estate license and was even employed by the San Diego County school district. After living for several years in the Pacific Northwest, Carl and his wife finally made their way to Roswell, Georgia where they made their home for the past 7 years. He was a strong role model and will be missed by those who loved him.

Surviving Carl is his wife of 67 years, Fayetta; his youngest sister, Vera Ruth Holt of Lucerne, Calif.; one ‘half-sister’ Shirley Dameron and ‘half-brother’ David Jr of Clinton, Tenn; 2 sons predeceased him, Carl E., Jr and Christopher, leaving one surviving son, Michael Sr., from Roswell, GA. 6 grandchildren: Carrie Wysocki from Hampton, VA, Michael Disney Jr, from Alpharetta, Joshua Disney, from Roswell, GA, Erin Disney Eisenla from Cumming, GA, Tanner Disney and Brielle Disney from Oregon and 8 great-grandchildren: Alexis Wysocki, Cameron Wysocki, Madison Wysocki, Michael Disney, III, Bennett Disney, Kyle Disney, Ashley Eisenla and Gabriella Disney.
