Boston: The Boston History Co., 1896, pp 296-297) writes an interesting account of Helen and her husband in which he notes that following their marriage: "They began housekeeping in a style quite beyond that of the ordinary pioneer. Mrs. Joslyn was a fine musician, and besides carpets and handsome furniture, possessed a piano, the first or one of the first in Onondaga county. It was made in London by G. Astor, a brother of John Jacob Astor, and is now in the possession of Dr. Joslyn's daughter, Mrs. Matilda Joslyn Gage, of Fayetteville."
