Radio broadcaster. She was host of a talk show on WTIC AM 1080 in Hartford, Conn. for nearly 30 years. After appearing on Broadway in the 1930s, she joined network radio in New York. She played a variety of roles on soap operas of the day and later moved to Los Angeles and appeared on shows including "Lux Radio Theater," Hollywood Hotel," and "First Nighter." She also appeared in motion pictures and worked alongside some of the best-known names in Hollywood. She left entertainment for a more settled lifestyle with her family. Jean hosted radio shows in Philadelphia, Cleveland and New York City, where she was one of the first female sportscasters in the country. She came to WTIC in 1947 and took over hosting duties on "Radio Bazaar," a women's program begun in 1934 that would later be renamed, "The Jean Colbert Show." Her show ran Monday through Saturday and featured live and taped interviews with some of the most significant newsmakers of the day. Also the director of women's programming at WTIC, Jean retired in 1974 when the station was sold and her show consequently discontinued. After her retirement, she volunteered for the Connecticut Radio Information Services (CRIS), doing a weekly half-hour program for visually handicapped people.
