Howard Wayne Sharp, age 91, of Centerville, passed away Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville.

Howard was born on July 9, 1927 in Rock Island, Illinois, the son of Lloyd and Alma (Warboys) Sharp. He moved to Centerville in 1947. He married the homecoming queen, Dixie Clark in 1951. To this union, five children were born, Allen, Michael, Rick, Terry and Diana.

Howard was baptized in the Grand River in Missouri, before joining the military. On May 29, 1945, he entered the United States Navy, serving in numerous states throughout the United States, as well as the Pacific Islands, as a Motor Machinist's Mate, Third Class. He was honorably discharged on July 18, 1946 in St. Louis, Missouri.

Howard was a truck driver his whole life. He spent his life as a traveler of life's highways, and a teller of life's tales. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family.

Left to honor Howard's memory are his children, Michael (Gayla) Sharp of Centerville, Rick (Penny) Sharp of Centerville, Terry (Lori) Sharp of Indianola, and Diana (Chris) Bonnett of Centerville; ten grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, and many other families that claimed him as their own.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Alma Sharp; his son, Allen Sharp; two brothers, Harold Sharp and Owen "Pete" Sharp; and a sister, Garnett Klinginsmith.

Per Howard's wishes, cremation has been accorded. A Visitation will take place on Friday, October 12, 2018 at Lange Funeral Home and Crematory in Centerville, with the family greeting friends from 1:00PM-3:00PM. Military Rites will be provided at 3:00PM at Lange Funeral Home in Centerville. Inurnment will follow at Haines Cemetery, north of Centerville. Memorials have been established to the family of Howard Sharp, to be determined at a later date, and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home, 1900 South 18th Street, Centerville, Iowa 52544.
