STRUTHERS - There will be funeral services on Friday, Oct. 5, 2018, at 11 a.m. at the Thompson Filicky Funeral Home, 4221 Market St. in Boardman, with the Reverend Jeff Gilkerson officiating for Robert James Allen, 85, formerly of Creed Street, who passed away Sunday evening, Sept. 30, 2018, at Ivy Woods Manor.

Robert was born Jan. 21, 1933, in Braxton County, W.Va., the son of the late Charles D. and Edna (Riffle) Allen.

He was an Army veteran.

Robert worked for Youngstown Sheet & Tube for over 20 years and later for Northside Medical Center, as a boiler engineer for 10 years, retiring in 1997.

He was a member of the New Covenant Church of the Nazarene in Youngstown.

Robert is survived by his wife of 63 years, the former Ann Flannery, whom he married on May 8, 1955; four children, Carol (Art) Lewis of Struthers, Robert (Marisol) Allen of Stafford, Va., Katherine Allen and James Allen, both of Struthers; eight grandchildren, Bryan (Melissa) Davis, Daniel Davis, Kristin (Erik) Viera, Jon Davis, Krystal Allen, Zoe Allen, Alexis Allen and Isabelle Allen; eight great-grandchildren, Cameron Viera, Erik Viera, Ciara Davis, Liam Davis, Brady Davis, Dylan Davis, Keon Allen and Lola Allen; a brother, Frank (Marty) Allen of Cleveland; and a sister, Marie Cosner Braxton County.

Besides his parents, Robert was preceded in death by 12 brothers, Casey, Jim, Guy, Tom, Chris, Mitch, Edward, Brian, Raymond, Ray, Gene and Charles; and four sisters, Bertha Riffle, Mary Parker, Mayne Ratliff and Gay Allen.

Family and friends may call on Thursday, Oct. 4, 2018, from 4 to 7 p.m. and on Friday, from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the Thompson Filicky Funeral Home, with funeral service to follow at 11 a.m.

The Ellsworth V.F.W., Post 9571 will conduct full military honors following the committal service at Green Haven Memorial Gardens
