Jesse was a son of Jesse & Martha (Johnson) Adams and a grandson of David & Mary (Ivey) Adams. His grandfather had died 5/20/1748 just before Southampton County was split off from Isle of Wight County leaving eight "orphaned" children including his father (a teen ager at that time).
Jesse grew up in Franklin County, NC and entered service along with siblings Bryant & Byrd/Bird while visiting his parents who had moved from Franklin County to Johnston County. Following his Revolutionary service Jesse returned to Franklin County where he married Unicy Hunt 5/28/1782. Jesse & Unicy had ten children -- Nancy, Patsey, Henry, Alsey, Eliza, Unicy, Kiley, Tabitha, Jesse III, & Gillum -- before going west into Tennessee, settling first in what was then within Smith County and then moving on to Benton County where he died 12/6/1835
The old Adams Cemetery has several unmarked graves which likely include Jesse. Following his death Unicy left Benton County to live with a daughter. Malvina Jordan Adams whose legible marker remains here MAY have been married to their son (unconfirmed)
