AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mrs. Jacquelyn "Jackie" H. Edwards went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 22, 2006. Mrs. Edwards was born in Mayfield, GA on October 3, 1927 and moved to Augusta in the early 30's. She lived with her parents, the late Simpson A. and Elizabeth S. Hammack on the Augusta National Golf Course until her father's death in 1945.
Jackie served as one of the first School Crossing Ladies with the Richmond County Sheriff Dept. at Wilkerson Garden Elementary School. She also taught a Kindergarten Class at Burns Memorial United Methodist Church for 18 years. Jackie was a member of St. Mark United Methodist Church and the French Bible Class. Formerly she served in ministry with her husband at Grovetown, Philadelphia, Lewis Memorial, Riverview, Cokesbury and Mize Memorial United Methodist Churches for over 35 years.
Jackie was the wife of Rev. C.W. Edwards for more than 63 years. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her four children; grandchildren; sister, Mrs. Marjorie Coursey of Augusta and brother and sister-in-law. Jackie was preceded in death by her parents and brother. B. Paul Hammack.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 25, 2006 at St. Mark United Methodist Church (Mrs. Edwards will lie in state beginning at 10:00 A.M.) with Reverend Gerald Varner, Reverend Bob Gillespie and Reverend Fred Heard officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the French Bible Class and the Retired United Methodist Ministers' Association. Interment will follow in Westover Memorial Park.
The family request that in lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to the United Methodist Children's Home, 500 Columbia Dr., Decatur, GA 30030 or to the Augusta Rescue Mission, 526 Walker St., Augusta, GA 30901.
