Annette I. (Howard) Davis, 95, of 31 Haynes Road died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2007, at the Centers For Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington after a brief illness. She was born in Wilmington on Nov. 19, 1911, the daughter of John and Ethel (Hicks) Howard. As a child, she spent her days walking barefoot through the great pine stands on Higley Hill, helping her father tend the farm animals and having adventures at the abandoned Miller Farm. She attended the one-room Fitch School on Higley Hill Road. She married Lawrence F. Davis on Dec. 17, 1927, in Wilmington. Together they raised four children. Mr. Davis predeceased her on Dec. 16, 1980. Mrs. Davis will be remembered as a simple woman who loved her family and the outdoors. Her time was spent in her large vegetable gardens, tending her flower beds, cutting firewood with her "buck saw," and taking winter walks with her ski pole in hand and "creepers" on her feet. She is survived by a sister, Jane Howard of Barre; her children, Gene and Ruth Davis, Bernice Sullivan, George and Virginia Davis, all of Wilmington, and Michael and Jill Davis of Marstons Mills, Mass.; 11 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Her brother, Paul Howard, three sisters, Dorothy Waite, Alice Brassor, and Gertrude Bartlett, and a son-in-law, Kenneth Sullivan, predeceased her. Burial will follow in the Davis family lot in the Riverview Cemetery.
