Gwendolyn was born on October 9th, 1954 in Decatur, Illinois, the daughter of Noel W. and Mary Louise (Cusick) Myers. She was a 1972 graduate of MacArthur High School.

After graduation from Southern Illinois University she had a successful career as an interior designer. In Indianapolis, Indiana, she married Glen Burkhardt in 1999 and a year later they adopted their daughter Isabella Noel.

A life-long, self-taught artist, Gwendolyn exhibited her work at the Indiana State Fair and sold her pieces in galleries in Brown County, Indiana. Her painting “Late Bloomers” was selected for exhibition in the prestigious 78th annual Hoosier Salon in 2002.

In 2003, she received a merit award for the interior design of the Burkhardt Residence from the City of Indianapolis and a second award for the design from the Indianapolis American Institute of Architects in 2004.

In 2011, the family moved to Half Moon Bay, California where they lived for three years and in 2014 came to reside in San Diego.

Gwendolyn’s life spirit was abundant and infectious. She sought and brought joy to every moment and interaction. She was an avid reader, a fearless adventurer and delighted in discovering new and different experiences and places. Endlessly creative, she improved and enhanced every environment she inhabited. While her smile and kindness will live in our memories, her creative output will serve as a tangible reminder of a life lived fully.

She is survived by her husband; her daughter, Isabella; her brother, Bruce; and her father, Noel.

Gwendolyn was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Lou, who passed away in 2012.
