Donie Bales, son of the late Oliver F. Bales and Alice (Willard) Bales, was born April 7, 1933 at Royal Oak, and departed this life Feb. 9, 1988 at Ozarks Medical Center at West Plains; at the age of 54 years.
He was united in marriage July 12, 1958 at Alton, MO to Vergie Fuller.
He is survived by his wife, Vergie Bales, of the home, Thayer; 2 sisters, Ellen Morris of Thomasville, MO and Jo Williams of Thomasville, MO; 4 brothers, Willard Bales of Alton, MO; his twin brother Johnnie O. Bales of Ogelsby, IL; William E. Bales of West Plains, MO; and Jackie G. Bales of High Ridge, MO; his mother-in-law Mary Fuller of Thayer, MO; his brother-in-law and his wife, Ken and Beverly Fuller of Thayer, MO; 2 sisters-in-law, Edith Sutherland of Camp, AR; and Gladys Hutson of Dysart, IA; and several nieces and nephews.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Thayer.
He was member of the American Legion, Charles Buckner Post #344 in Thayer.
He was a retired 1st Sgt of the U.S. Army, having served in the Korean and Vietnam conflicts.
After his retirement from service, he was employed at Carter Funeral Home in Thayer as a funeral director and manager for several years.
Funeral service were held Feb. 11 at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer with Rev. Gerald Bounds and Rev. Grover Pingleton officiating. Interment in Shiloh Cemetery under direction of the Carter Funeral Home of Thayer.
Military rites were held at the gravesite by the American Legion, Charles Burkett Post #344 of Thayer.
