Funeral services for Retired Chief Petty Officer, Raymond W. Hamilton, age 82 will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, September 28, 2018 at Woodlawn United Methodist Church, West Monroe, with Rev. Shelley Hill officiating. Interment with military honors will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday, September 27, 2018 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the church with Masonic Rites Service at 6:00 PM under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe.
Raymond was born August 27, 1936 in Swartz, LA and passed away peacefully at home on September 25, 2018, after a long battle with cancer. He was a charter member of Woodlawn United Methodist Church, 60 year member of Cadeville Masonic Lodge and a member of VFW, Fleet Reserve and Disabled American Veterans. He joined the National Guard in 1953 and transferred to United States Navy in 1955, where he served with honor until 1974. He served aboard several Naval vessels including the USS Frank Knox, the USS Haynesworth, the USS Galveston and the USS Arcadia. He also served 3 tours with Naval Advisory Group in Viet Nam. He retired at Millington Naval Air Station in Millington, TN in 1974. After his Naval career, he worked as a machinist and retired from Eastern Electric to pursue his avid hobby in wood crafting.
Raymond was preceded in death by his parents; James W. Hamilton and Mary Tripp Hamilton, brothers; David Ellis, Melvin and James W. Hamilton, Jr.; sisters; Mary Ellen Walker and Linda Gaye Jarvis. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 56 years; Ellen Clark Hamilton, daughter; Suzanne Sloan (Richard), son; Christopher Hamilton; granddaughter, Annie James (Cody), grandson, James Sloan (Becky); 5 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren; brother, Thomas Hamilton (Lori); sisters, Barbara Robert, Dorothy Smith (Bobby) and Faye Stewart (Robert); special cousin, Ronny Hamilton of Caddo Mills, TX and many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Pallbearers will be his Masonic Brothers.
