Gunners Mate (Guns) 2nd Class James William Hamilton Jr from West Monroe, Louisiana lost his life at the age of 22 on April 25, 1967.

Gunners Mate (Guns) 2nd Class James William Hamilton Jr was born on March 13, 1945 and had 4 years of service in the U.S. Navy arriving in Vietnam waters assigned to the USS Bigelow (DD-942) Task Force 77 (TF-77), 7th Fleet.

Beginning in March 1967, the USS Bigelow's guns supported U.S. forces ashore near the Demilitarized Zone dividing North and South Vietnam. On April 20, 1967, GMG2 Hamilton was one of six sailors injured when an explosion and fire in gun Mount 52 occurred during a fire mission. GMG2 Hamilton was critically burned and died from his burn injuries five days later on April 25, 1967.
