When William (brother of Etta) married and had Lilly, Harry, Marjory, Clark, Esther, and Gertie, these Smiths all lived in the Wet (like N. Dakota or possibly near Couer De A'lene, Idaho. from letter from Aunt Loe Jan 23, 1952.

info from Obit. He died from cancer of the liver with a 2 month illness. When he died, six of the nine kids he had were still living. The childern still living were: Mrs. N.A. Rarick, Mrs. A.P. Ulrich and E. Clark Smith all of Cathay,N.D. Harry Smith of Cathmere, N.D. and Mrs. L.P. Woodworth of Fairview, Mont., and Mrs. W.H. Krebs of San Francisco, Calif., he also left a half sister Mrs. Wm. Harl, and a half brother G.T. Crist, all of Winigan,Mo.

In the spring of 1883 Mr. and Mrs. Smith moved from Missouri to Kidder county N.D., where they homesteaded and farmed until 1893 when in the summer of that year he moved his family to Cathay, entered into business, and resided here until his death. Mr. Wm. Smith was called Billie by all his friends, for everyone who knew him was his friend, young and old, and esteemed this quiet smiling man for his fine character. Billy ws a good citizen, a true Christian and one who followed "The Golden Rule."

Mr. Smith was an active member of the Knights of Pythias Lodge. It was Billie who planted the trees in the school yard which now stand as a memorial to our beloved friend. He was a member of the Board of School directors, and a member of the Village Board of Trustees for many years.
