Naoma Douglas Choate, age 89 of 1016 Fletcher Street, Wilkesboro, NC passed away Monday, September 24, 2018 at Westwood Hills Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Wilkesboro, NC.

She was born August 31, 1929 in Alleghany County to the late George Reeves and Laura Ellen Irwin Douglas. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Amon Kilby Choate.

Naoma worked at Cato’s, Irwin Chevrolet-Oldsmobile as a bookkeeper, Reed Insurance Agency, Librarian at Glade Creek Elementary for one year, Manager of the Credit Bureau in Sparta for over ten years, and prepared income taxes for the family dairy farm. She was Salutatorian of the class of 1947 and she helped organize the class reunions. She was a member of Crab Creek Primitive Baptist Church for over 30 years. Naoma never met a stranger and was a kind and considerate person to everyone. She never had a cross word with anyone and was always a peacemaker. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be sorely missed by all who knew her. No one epitomized the Golden Rule better than her.

She is survived by one daughter, Sharon C. Benson and husband Bill of Wilkesboro; one son, Brian A. Choate and wife Diana of Sparta; one grandson, Matthew S. Choate; one great-granddaughter, Amelia Grey Dodson of Belmont; several nieces and nephews also survive.

The family requests the honor of your presence at the funeral service to celebrate the life of Naoma at 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 28, 2018 at Crab Creek Primitive Baptist Church with Elder James Wyatt and Reverend Roger Hull officiating. Interment will follow in Antioch Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home and other times at the home of Brian and Diana Choate, 622 Bledsoe Creek Road, Sparta, NC 28675.

Flowers are appreciated or memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Western Carolina Chapter, 3800 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215-3220.
