Dorothy was born October 8, 1923 in Garden City, Kansas. She was the daughter of Clayton C. Bice and Hazel Irene Thompson.
She graduated as Valedictorian from Jetmore High School in 1941. She graduated from Fort Hayes State in 1946. She taught in Satanta, Minneola, Tribune and Emporia, Kansas. She received her master’s degree at KTSC in Emporia, Kansas.
She was a WAC during World War II. She was married to Norman Russell Weeks in 1944. He was killed in the Pacific in March of 1945. She was married to Raymon Dolen Atherton on May 7, 1949. He preceded her in death on June 27, 2007.
Survivors include: Three children, Dianna Buckley and her husband Frank of Corpus Christi, Texas, Randy Atherton of Emporia, Kansas and Larry Atherton and his wife of Highlands Ranch, Colorado. Survived also by six grandchildren, Boone, Bonnie and Mattie Buckley and Bradley Atherton and his wife Stephanie, Brandon Atherton and his wife Meghan and Brett Atherton and his wife Lauren. She had five great-grandchildren, Hayden, Liam, Easton, Everly and Camden Atherton.
Graveside services were held on September 24, 2018 at 11:00 am at Union Center Cemetery near Adams, Oklahoma. Memorials may be given to the Pathways Hospice and left at Roberts Brothers Funeral Home, Box 745, Hooker, Oklahoma 73945
