M.R. "Ray" Peterson
Herington-M.R. "Ray" Peterson, 89, Herington, died Saturday, Feb. 2, at a Herington hospital.
Mr. Peterson farmed in the Delavan community most of his life. He retired in 1960 and moved to Herington.
He was born Sept. 29, 1895, at Delavan, the son of Nels and Eliza Laffin Peterson.
Mr. Peterson was a member of First United Methodist Church at herinton and Wilsey Lodge No. 382, AF&AM, and Sunrise Chapter 324 of the Order of Eastern Star, both at Wilsey. He also was a charter member and director of the Rural Electric Association at Council Grove and a former member of Farm Bureau. Tri-County 4-H Fair Board and was host to three international exchange students from Denmark, Japan and Greece.
He was married to Merna Bowling May 10, 1916, at Delavan. She died Dec. 15, 1976.
Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Glenna Rodman, Eureka, Mrs. Olive Schoof, Council Grove, and Mrs. Helen Mayfield and Mrs. Elda Ruth Medrow, both of Wichita; two sons, Donald Peterson, Council Grove, and Robert Peterson, Philadelphia, Pa.; a brother, Glen Peterson, Lincoln Park, Mich.; 13 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church in Herington. Burial will be in Delavan Cemetery. Mr. Peterson will lie in state Monday and Tuesday at Puryear-Brockmeier Funeral Home in Herington and Wednesday at the church.
