Michel Rites Held Tuesday

J. Walter Michel, Sr., 79, resident of 10 North Hill Parkway, died early Tuesday morning at St. Dominic Hospital.

Private funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the graveside in Lakewood Memorial Park with Father Patrick Tierney officiating.

Survivors: his wife, Mrs. Josephine Joachim Michel; three sons, J. Walter Michel, II, and Calvin J. Michel both of Jackson and Melvin M. Michel of Baton Rouge; three daughters, Mrs. W. W. Trigg of Memphis, Mrs. Gary Anderson of Baton Rouge and Mrs. Tom Head, Jr., of Jackson; 19 grandchildren and one greatgrandchild; two brothers, Clifford C. Michel of Jackson and Henry Michel of New Orleans.

Michel was a native of New Orleans and educated in the New Orleans schools and attended Soule Business College.

He came to Jackson 1927 to manage the Electric Building, the Standard Life Building and the Capital National Bank Building. Until his retirement in 1960 he was active in property management and commercial real estate and served as a president of the Jackson Board of Realtors. He was one of the organizers of Multiple Listing Service.

Active in the civic and church life of Jackson, he was chairman of the Red Cross Chapter for 10 years, serving during World War II; was an organizer of the old University Club and Petroleum Club and a member of the Jackson Rotary Club. He was a communicant of St. Richard's Catholic Church and a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.

Memorials may be sent to St. Dominic Hospital, St. Jude's Hospital in Memphis or to a favorite charity.
