Norma Dailey Gardner, wife of Rev. Andrew D. Gardner of Brockton, MA, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 18, 2015 following a long illness.

She was born to George and Alma Dailey of Waverly, NY, on January 27, 1930, and graduated from Waverly High School in 1947. Following a year as secretary in the new Stroehmann’s Bakery across the border in Sayre, PA, Norma enrolled at the Missionary Training Institute (now Nyack College) in Nyack, New York. It was there that she met her husband Andy and they were married in 1951 at the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Waverly, NY.

While her husband continued his studies, Norma worked as a. secretary in the Williams &. Williams Law Firm in Nyack.

In 1954, they were assigned as missionaries to Guinea, West Africa, where they served until 1983. During this time, their three children were born. Andy served as field builder for a few years, after which they were both involved in teaching at the Telekoro Bible Institute. They spend years 1969-1973 in the neighboring country of Sierra Leone. Their time in Guinea was terminated because of Norma's increasing health problems with asthma.

Since that time, they have been pastoring at Wendell Avenue Alliance Church in Brockton, MA.

Besides her husband, Norma is survived by her three children: Janet Eileen (wife of Rev. James Weiss) of Leesburg, FL, Rev. Andrew Daniel, Jr. and wife Janice of-Dearborn, MI, and Stephen Eldon and wife Victoria, Missions Coordinator and Plant Manager of the Crosswinds Wesleyan Church in Canandaigua NY.

Norma is survived by granddaughter Chrislyn and grandsons A. Daniel Gardner, III and his wife Erin, Peter, Nathan, Timothy, and Josiah Gardner, and her sister Mariane and husband, John Holbrook, of Kure Beach, North Carolina. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death are her parents, and five of her siblings: Eleanor (Lake), Richard Dailey, Evelyn Putnam, Marjorie Cowles and John Dailey.

A Funeral service will be held on Friday, March 27, 2015 at 2:00 PM in the Dahlborg-MacNevin Funeral Home 647 Main St., Brockton, MA. Since that time, they have been pastoring at Wendell Avenue Alliance Church in Brockton, Mass., where Norma led a weekly Bible study for women.

Norma distinguished herself as a translator of the Bible and a dictionary into native African languages, as a housemother in the home for missionaries' children, as a teacher and friend. Her work with the African women endeared her to hundreds of young wives and women of all ages who benefited from her Bible teaching as well as her advice on marriage and family relations. Long recognized as a student of the Bible, her life reflected the teachings of Jesus and she will be remembered as a devout and godly follower of Christ.
