AGE 84 YEARS
Richard M. "Dick" Bateman, of South St. Marys Street, St. Marys, died, Sept. 15, 2018 at Penn Highlands-Elk after a short illness. He was born on Nov. 15, 1933 in Benezette, a child of the late Andrew and Pearl (Hamilton) Bateman. On Oct. 23, 1954. he married Gloria (DeCarli) who survives in St. Marys.
Along with his wife, Dick is survived by: two children, Susan (Raymond) Gascon of Weedville and David Bateman of Byrnedale; a sister, Janice Tesauro of Force; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother-in-law, Michael Tesauro.
Dick attended Benezette School until his final year when he graduated from Weedville High School. He attended night school for four years to receive his machinist certificate while working with Stackpole Carbon. He worked with Stackpole for all of his working life, retiring in 1991. Also, while working for Stackpole, he worked as a Bartender for the Mullendean Hotel, the St. Marys Elk's Club and the Peacock Lounge.
Dick attended Sacred Heart Church with his wife for many years. He enjoyed his weekends at his camp in Sinnemahoning, hunting and fishing. He is a past member of the Bennetts Valley Men's Club and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. Born and raised in Benezette, he has lived in St. Marys since 1959.
There will be no visitation.
A memorial service will be held at the Weedville United Methodist Church with Pastor Missy Smith.
Interment will take place in the St. Joseph Church Cemetery of Force.
