Funeral services for former Wyoming resident Elvin Lee Brown, 73, of Ivins, were conducted Oct. 18, 2004. Interment was in Ivins City Cemetery.

He died peacefully on Oct. 14, 2004, after a long and often difficult struggle with emphysema.

Born in Sandsprings, Okla., he was the son of Lee Jennings and Elva Koreen (Hambleton) Brown. As a young boy, he moved to Provo, Utah, with his family.

On April 12, 1950, he married Helen Herman in Nephi, Utah. Their marriage later was solemnized in the Idaho Falls Idaho Temple, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The couple settled in Provo, where he worked as a mason's helper for Geneva Steel. They moved to Lander in 1961 and he was a driller for U.S. Steel. He retired as a driller in Elko, Nev., in 1998 and moved to Ivins.

In his spare time, he was a self-employed mason and constructed many beautiful rock walls and fireplaces.

He was a quiet and steadfast member of the LDS Church and served in the Sunday school presidency and as ward clerk for many years. He loved hard work, fair play, honest people, fishing, Oklahoma football, Stockmans and Lander; and enjoyed gardening, horses, and chocolate Labrador retrievers. Dedicated to his extended family, he was a devoted husband and father.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years of Ivins; seven daughters and their husbands, Connie Lee Hansen of Los Lunas, N.M., Vicky Lynn Nielson of Elko, Joanne Roper of Berthoud, Colo., Joyce Nickerson of Fort Mohave, Ariz., Michelle Christiansen of Elko, Holly Anderson of Sparks, Nev., and Shannon Brown of Reno, Nev.; three sons, Elvin Dale Brown and his wife of Casper, Jeff Brown of Hurricane, Utah, and Scott Eugene Brown and his wife of Elko; his mother of American Fork, Utah; two brothers, Dean and Paul Brown; three sisters, Ruby Ream, Elsie Vickerman and Faye Edmonson; 26 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father.
