Dorothy was the daughter of Earl Eldridge "Doc" Steed and Dorothy Lois West/Steed. She was their only daughter. She had one brother, Hoyt Steed, who was four years older than Dorothy.


Dorothy married Charles Harrison Stallings on 4/19/1941 in her parents home in Temple, Carroll County, Georgia. Their first child and only son, Charles David Stallings, did not survive. He was born and died on 11/9/1943. He is also buried at Asbury.


Dorothy and Harrison also have two daughters, Rebecca and Jan. Harrison and Dorothy were married for 66 years.


Dorothy passed away in Hartwell, Hart County, Georgia. She was 82 years old. Her husband, Harrison, grieving over her death, died 21 days later on 5/6/2007. They were both cremated and their ashes will be buried at Asbury Cemetery, Temple, Carroll County, Georgia, near their son.


They were a wonderful couple - so very kind and gentle. We will all miss them so much.

Mrs. Dorothy Steed Stallings, 82, of 145 Cleveland Ave., Hartwell, died Sunday, April 15, 2007 at Hart Co. Hospital.


Born on October 16, 1924 in Carroll Co. GA, she was the daughter of the late Earl Ethridge Steed and Lois Dorothy West Steed. She was a retired floral designer, member of the Hartwell First United Methodist Church, Sojourners and the Mae Lilly McCurry Circle of the UMW.


Survivors include her husband: C. Harrison Stallings of the home; two daughters: Rebecca S. Lunsford of Norcross GA and Jan S. Banks of Lavonia GA; a brother: Hoyt Steed of Knoxville TN; three grandchildren: Robert Banks, Jamie L. Brys and John Lunsford; two great-grandchildren: Kristen Banks and Carter Banks.She was preceded in death her son: Charles David Stallings.


Memorial services will be Tuesday, April 17 at 2:00 p.m. at the Hartwell First United Methodist Church with Dr. R. Allen Stewart and Rev. Troy Ayers officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. in the Church Fellowship Hall. Memorials may be made to the Hartwell First United Methodist Church Capital Campaign, 200 E. Howell St., Hartwell, GA 30643.
