Dan Edwin Thompson was born in Crockett, Texas on January 21, 1957. He passed away on September 14, 2018 in Groveton, Texas at the age of 61 years.

Dan graduated from Groveton High School in 1975 and went on to attend college at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas. While in Huntsville, he met and fell in love with his wife of forty years, Dorothy Ann Cook. They were married on May 20, 1978 in Huntsville, Texas and moved to the Houston area where they began a family in Humble, Texas. A few years later, they moved to the ancestral ranch in Groveton, Texas where they raised their loving family. He worked for Texas Timberjack of Lufkin, where he was a Construction Supervisor, for a number of years. Dan enjoyed the work he did by utilizing his varied experiences on the projects he supported. Work didn’t define Dan, but how he worked and his positive attitude and eagerness to share his knowledge with others endeared him to all that knew or worked with him.

Mr. Thompson was an avid outdoorsman and he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, riding around on the “Gator”, and searching for arrowheads. He built quite the arrowhead and curio & relic collection throughout the years. He loved sharing his knowledge of local history, the outdoors, and of nature with all that would listen. He was a loving and committed husband, father, brother, and friend. He loved to spend time with his extended family and attending family gatherings. He especially enjoyed helping to cook, catching up with, and laughing with family. He belonged to the Zion Hill Baptist Church family and attended services when he could.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Eldridge and Jeanette Thompson, and his two sisters, Freda Thompson and Mary Nell Doyle.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. in the Cartwright Memorial Chapel of Groveton Funeral Home with Bro. Dee Queen officiating. Burial will follow in Flat Prairie Cemetery.
