Emerson "Bud" Tjaden, 87, died on Monday, May 7, 2007, at Pocahontas Manor Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 11 at Faith Lutheran Church, rural Palmer, with Pastor Richard Taylor officiating. Burial will be in Clinton-Garfield Cemetery in Rolfe. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Larson-Weishaar Funeral Home in Manson.

Survivors include his wife Mildred; sons, Jim (Gloria) of Badger, IA, Larry (Jane) of Cedar Rapids, IA, Bob (Janis) of Gilmore City, IA, Bill of Wayne, Neb.; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sister Janet (John) Brown of Metamora, Ill.; nephew F.M. McCully of Crete, Ill. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Verna, and grandson, Jeffrey Tjaden.

Emerson Herman Tjaden was born on Dec. 3, 1919, in Woodford County, Illinois, the son of Ernest and Pauline (Diebel) Tjaden. He graduated from Washburn High School in Illinois, and worked as a welder for R.G. LeTorneau in Peoria, Ill. On Feb. 14, 1941, he was united in marriage with Mildred Mae Onnen in Benson, Ill. Together, they moved to Pocahontas County in the Spring of 1950 where they began farming. Emerson was a grain and livestock farmer and served on the Board of Revenue in Pocahontas County. For the last 10 years he and Milly enjoyed going to the Farmers Market selling vegetables and visiting with people. He was also a charter member of Faith Lutheran Church.
