Mr. John Louie Simms, 80, of Doles died Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at his residence.
The funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at Banks Funeral Home Chapel with the interment to follow in the Red Oak Cemetery. The Rev. Rob Gray will officiate. Family and friends will be welcomed into the family home following the burial.
Mr. Simms was born on January 14, 1938 in Huntsville, Alabama to the late Oscar and Ethyl Lynn Simms. He served in the United States Air Force where he met his beloved wife, Loretta. Mr. Simms lived most of his life in Doles but remained an avid Alabama fan…Roll Tide! After many years of service, he retired from Dougherty County as the Tax Director. He spent much of his spare time enjoying a friendly, competitive game of corn hole, basketball, bowling, softball or fishing.
His love for the Lord was apparent to all who knew him. Through the years, Mr. Simms shared his love for Christ through singing in the church choir, teaching Sunday school, prison ministries and the Gideons.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Loretta Carmichael Simms of Doles; daughters Rhonda Richey (Cameron), Patti Yancey (Joseph)Yancey all of Panama City, Florida. Grandchildren, Dalton Haralson, Kelsey Yancey, Alexandria Yancey, Kylee Trenholm, Ryan Richey and Jordan Richey.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Simms was proceeded in death by his cherished son, John Philip Simms and his siblings Bryson, Elizabeth, Wayne, Melvin and Irene.
The family will receive family and friends on Friday September 14, 2018 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Banks Funeral Home Chapel.
