David C. Sterling passed away on November 20, 2016 after a courageous battle with cancer. Dave
was passionate about everything he did and gave so much of himself to others, especially his
family. Dave was born on June 12, 1940 in Schenectady, NY and grew up in Pittsfield, MA. He
graduated from Bryant University with a degree in business and then joined The Hartford after
serving two years with the U.S. Army in the Panama Canal Zone. After 42 years, he retired from
The Hartford as assistant vice president and senior risk manager. In 2013, Dave received the honor
of induction into the Risk Management Hall of Fame for his contributions to his profession. Dave
was a proud Granby resident for over 40 years. He coached almost every sport, and, among many
other community volunteer posts, served as President of Granby Little League. Dave was an avid
archer who enjoyed roving with his traditional longbow, hiking, skiing, wilderness canoe camping
and fly-fishing. Dave was also a collector, who assembled a remarkable library of archery books
and artifacts. Dave leaves behind his loving wife of 48 years, Lynne, daughter Suzanne and son Jon
and his wife Kelly, a brother Kenneth Sterling and his wife Mary, and two grandchildren, Chase
and Kathleen, who will all miss him dearly. His family will receive friends on Friday, November 25
from 4 PM to 7 PM at the Hayes Huling & Carmon Funeral Home, 364 Salmon Brook St, Granby.
