Lavoy Buford Carlile was born March 7, 1945, in Simon, OK., to James Wesley "J.W." and Alma (Barnes) Carlile.

He graduated from Wilson, OK., High School in 1964 and from Okmulgee Tech at Okmulgee, OK., as an auto mechanic. He then worked for a auto dealership in Ardmore, OK., for a short time before going into the U.S. Navy, as a mechanic with the Seabees, serving during the Vietnam war. After the Navy he worked for the dealership in Ardmore again for a short time, then going to work for Cities Service Oil Co. During that time he lived at Drummond, OK., Bowie, TX., Grand Saline, TX., and Canton, TX.

Lavoy married Ella Faye Blackburn Nov. 19, 1977.

He was known as the "broom maker" who owned the Broom Maker's Shop on the Mountain at First Monday, at Canton. In addition to making shaker brooms, he made wood carvings and painted.

Lavoy was a member of Big Rock Church of Christ, Canton, TX.

A resident of Canton, TX., he died at the age of 61, May 5, 2007, in Dallas, TX.

Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Ella Faye; his father, J.W. Carlile; brother, W.M. and wife and Cora Carlile; sister, Yvetta and husband David King.

He was preceded in death by his mother; and brother, James F. Carlile.

Services were at Eubank Funeral Home Chapel, Canton, TX., with graveside services and burial at Simon Cemetery, Simon, OK.
