Philomath resident Gene Snyder passed away Thursday at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis.
Gene was born Nov. 27, 1930, in Fisk, Mo., to Vincent and Thelma Howard Snyder. His family moved to California in 1935, and later, along with seven siblings, moved to Oregon. He attended Alsea High School.
Gene married Hilda Gray on Dec. 10, 1960, at Evangelical United Brethren Church, now the Philomath Museum.
Gene operated his own log truck from the Oregon coast to the Cascades until 1973, then he was the contract mail carrier from Philomath to Tidewater and Alsea until he retired in 1995. After retirement, he and Hilda grew many flowers in their yard, including dahlias. They enjoyed traveling to different states, cruised through the Panama Canal, visited Hawaii a few times and the Marshall Islands.
Survivors are his bride of 46 years, Hilda; daughter Susan Barnes and her husband, Roy, of Albany; son Steven Gene Snyder and his wife, Zeny, of Kwajalein, Marshall Islands; grandchildren Kasandra Williams, Joanna and Dominic Gene Snyder; step-grandchildren Hannah Langager and Jesse Barnes; great-grandsons Kyron Gene Amerling and Caleb Williams; step-great-grandson Gabriel Ross; sisters Ann Havelock of Crooked River Ranch and Anita McClure of Harrisburg; brothers Jim Cloer of Junction City and Kenny Cloer of Lakeview; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Bill Cloer and sisters Betty and Lela Cloer.
A potluck memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, at Philomath City Park on south 23rd Street in Philomath.
