Katherine S. (Barton) Rusin left us on September 5, 2018 following a courageous battle with an extended illness. While her physical pain was merciless, Katy's strong sense of faith continued to guide her actions and reflect her infinite humility, charity, and love for family and friends. While Christmas was Katy's favorite holiday, it was the live, room filling, touch the ceiling tree she decorated each year that brought her endless joy. For the past 11 years, Katy served as an assistant teacher in the Day School at First English Lutheran Church where she considered her co-workers and the many children she cared for as her extended family. She was especially grateful for the kindness and support she received during her illness from the schools Director, Angela Murphy.
Born on July 7, 1956 to Helen (Dopps) and George Barton, Katy was lifelong resident of Mansfield. Katy attended St. Peters schools and graduated from Madison High School in 1975. She leaves behind two daughters, Ashley and Brittany Rusin, who meant the world to her, as well as two sisters, Phyllis Kemp and Theresa Brown, a brother Stan Hoskins, and numerous nieces and nephews all of whom will cherish her memory and gentle spirit.
She was proceeded in death by her parents and two sisters, Judith (Hoskins) Gulker and Ann (Hoskins) Burke.
Friends may call at the Herlihy-Chambers Funeral Home, 173 Park Avenue West, on Monday from 5-7pm with a vigil prayer service being held at 5:00pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00am Tuesday at St. Peters Catholic Church with Fr. Austin Ammanniti officiating. A private interment for family members will be held in Mansfield Cemetery following the mass.
