Isidor Kost was born in Bittelbronn Germany. He immigrated to America in 1839 with his parents and siblings. He initially settled in Ohio where he married. The family then relocated to Iowa

Isidor Kost, according to the St. Mary’s Heritage Book 1850 to 1998 and Souvenir of the Diamond Jubilee of St. Mary's Church, Iowa City, Iowa, was one of the men that helped form St. Mary’s parish in Solon. “In 1875, work began on a brick structure.” (The first St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Solon). The building committee members included, Isidor Kost. Unfortunately Isidor died in 1865, 10 years before the building began. Isidor was born in 1815 in Bittelbronn, Germany. Reportedly he immigrated to America in 1839 and first settled in Ohio. That’s where he met and married his wife, Eva KESSLER, (daughter of Fidel, Jr. and Mary CORUS or CORNS KESSLER), 17 Apr 1847 in Muskingum, Ohio. Her family was from the same area in Germany and also came to Solon.
